Martha’s Vineyard Sunset 0% Dual Pricing Payment Processing

Martha’s Vineyard Sunset 0% Dual Pricing (Edge) Program.

iSmart Payments, the parent company of MV EZ Pay has created the Martha’s Vineyard Sunset 0% Dual Pricing program. Being that the parent company has merchant accounts all over the country, we thought it was appropriate to share the difference between dual pricing and surcharging.

Surcharging is illegal in some states like Massachusetts and Connecticut for instance. Businesses can offer a discount to customers for using cash (dual pricing / cash discounting) as it is legal in all 50 states but you may not increase the cost (surcharging) for using a credit card.

MV businesses now have the option to charge a separate dual prices dependent upon whether the customer is paying for cash or other digital transactions. This is called a Dual Pricing Program. We call it our, Martha’s Vineyard EZ Pay Sunset 0% Dual Pricing.

An Edge (Sunset) 0% Dual Pricing Payment platform from North American Bancard was developed to allow merchants a simple way to deal with the cost of digital payment processing fees and save thousands!

Edge (Sunset 0%) Dual Pricing Rate To The Customer = 4%.
A $100 (sale) X 4% = $104 is the full price without the 4% cash discount charged to your customers card.

Discount Rate To The Merchant = 3.8461%.
Merchant is billed 3.8461% on the $104 = $3.999944 (= $4 fee) charged to you the merchant which equals the $4.00 billed to the cardholder – merchant amount equates to the consumer amount. $104.00 (settled) minus (-) $4.00 (discount rate)= $100 (merchant net funded)

Note: The merchant’s business does not receive any part of the 4% fee as it is the assumed full price without the cash discount (dual pricing). Remember in the state of Massachusetts you can offer a discount to your customers for using cash (dual pricing) but you may not increase the cost of using a credit card (surcharging).

The links and articles below are worth the read as they outline credit card surcharging issues and offer insight on how surcharging is different than dual pricing. Remember, surcharging is adding a fee on top of a price for card usage, dual pricing is offering a discount (aka cash discounting) for paying with cash.

Is Dual Pricing (AKA Cash Discounting) Right for Your Business?

Gas stations offer prices one for cash and another for credit cards—then you’re already familiar with dual pricing. Also known as cash discounting. Dual pricing is a common pricing strategy to give customers the choice to pay with cash instead of a credit card, avoiding credit card processing fees. It’s legal in all 50 states and it’s not just for gas stations.
